On October 17, 30,000 euros were donated to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) by The Hague Ambassador Şaban Dişli, after the organization announced that it would investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in northern Syria.
TAF and various jihadist groups who were brought together by the Syrian National Army (SMO), also known as the FSA, was held on the allegations of chemical weapons used in the occupation operation against the north of Syria.
The Kurdish Red Crescent in Syria said that many patients, including civilians, were taken to hospital with burns caused by ‘unknown weapons’, and that efforts were under way to determine what kind of weapons these civilians were wounded by. The Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) and other Kurdish officials have called out the jihadist factors for using ‘irregular weapons’ at various places and times, and called on the UN and other agencies to investigate the allegations.
The Ministry of Defense of Turkey denied the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish Armed Forces and labelled the charges as “untrue.”
The UN and the Netherlands-based OPCW made separate statements and stating that they would investigate the allegations by responding positively to the call made by the Kurdish authorities.
On October 17, the day before the statement was made by the OPCW, it was brought to attention that Turkey Ambassador of Hague, Şaban Dişli, had visited the OPCW Chemistry and Technology Center and made a donation of 30,000 Euros “to be used in the construction”.
“OPCW plays an important role in the field of disarmament and international security and is an important actor against chemical proliferation. Our contribution here is indicative of our country’s strong commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention,” Şaban had said. OPCW general director Fernando Arias expressed his thanks to the Turkish Government for their support and stated that they are waiting for the support of all the States. “Our new center will play an important role in addressing threats, increasing the capacity of investigations and increasing our capabilities,” Arias said.
This donation made during the investigation of the allegations that chemical weapons were used in the north of Syria raises serious suspicion in terms of the salvation of the investigation and revealing an objective study.
