KCK Executive Council Co-chairman Cemil Bayık answered the ANF’s questions regarding the Turkish state’s invasion of North East Syria. Bayık made important findings in the interview and evaluated the Turkish state’s attacks on Kurdistan, the role of Europe, USA and Russia in the occupation and the struggle of the Kurdish people.
On 9 October, the day of the International Conspiracy, the AKP-MHP regime launched an invasion. The Turkish state is attacking both Rojava and the border districts in Northern Kurdistan. What is the purpose of these attacks?
The peoples of QSD, YPG-YPJ and North East Syria are now showing historical and honorable resistance. I greet all the insurgents and wish them success. QSD, YPG-YPJ forces and the peoples of North East Syria should know that all Kurds and conscientious people stand by their historical resistance. Therefore, QSD, YPG-YPJ forces and North East Syrian peoples will win at the end no matter how much have paid, no matter how much pain they suffer. So the people and humanity are with them, no one can stand against this war. No matter how much weapons and techniques the occupying Turkish state uses, it can never break this honorable will, resistance, freedom and democracy.
The Turkish state started the invasion attacks on 9 October. As you know, October 9 is the date when Leader Apo was expelled from Syria with an international conspiracy. The aim is to liquidate the Kurdish Freedom Movement and acheive the Kurdish genocide. The plot failed, and failed in many ways. On 9 October, the date of the conspiracy, a conspiracy against the people of Rojava and the peoples of North East Syria was developed in Syria. What does this mean? They want to redevelop the international conspiracy and make it successful. They started the conspiracy in Syria, they want to continue in Syria. In other words, they want to liquidate Leader Apo, the struggle that Leader Apo has developed for the Kurdish people and the peoples of the Middle East.
They know that they cannot commit the Kurdish genocide until they eliminate the PKK. Therefore, they come at the freedom movement and the Kurdish people with all their means. Now the Kurds and humanity must understand the purpose of the attacks of the Turkish state in Rojava. Their aim is to expel Kurds from both the North and Rojava from the border. They want to tear the Kurds apart. Their massacres in Rojava are also carried out in Cizre, Suruç and Birecik.
WANT TO IMMIGRATE THE KURDS FROM THE NORTH AND ROJAVA BORDER
They shoot guns, witnesses and wounded people and they say the QSD did. That’s a big lie. They want to kill, wound, scare and exile people. They say there is war in
Serêkaniyê, Suruç, Birecik, Cîzre. They want to evacuate the towns and villages of Bakur under the curtain of war. No matter how many shots they make, no matter how much massacre they carry out, everyone should take care of their home, property and city. If they do, they will not be serving the politics of the invaders. The invaders want to break Bakur and Rojava’s ties with this war. They want to migrate the Kurds on both sides.
That is why they are conducting such a policy both in Rojava and Bakur. If the people leave the village, the city, the house, they will never return. That means the death of the Kurds. Kurds must struggle for existence. If the Kurds want to live a free life with their identity, values, language and culture, they must take into consideration all the costs and stand against the occupation and invasion, only then they can live. If this is not the case, the enemy will aim to eliminate everything what is Kurdish and Kurdistan. They don’t hide that. Therefore, our people must stand against this policy to the end. If they do not stop, if they say that they should not be martyred or injured, if they emigrate for this and fulfill the demands of the invaders, then they prepare their own death with their own hands.
Before the attack, as a result of discussions on the “safe zone mechanism”, the region was left weak and unarmed and then the road was opened for attacks. How do you assess the role of international forces in these attacks?
Everyone knows that Russia and America have sacrificed Kurds for their own interests. The Kurdish people provided great services to humanity and even to them. Only the Kurds stood against ISIS. The freedom fighters stopped and killed many. They saved humanity from the scourge of ISIS. Everyone owes the Kurds. Instead of paying off their debts, they are helping ISIS, Erdogan. So that Erdogan and ISIS can take revenge on the Kurds. “Our relations with YPG-YPJ are military, not political,” the US said. They never developed political relations. They never accepted Democratic Autonomy.
A meeting was held with Iran and Russia in Turkey. They said, “We do not accept democratic autonomy, we do not recognize such a will.” Then the US and Syria, “draw a line to the border, we will defend the border,” they agreed and began a joint patrol. A few days later, America said “We are pulling our soldiers.”
Already the attacks by Turkey began. So under the name of providing defense, the US made Turkey enter North East Syria. These alliances were made to legitimize the invasion of Turkey. Russia had already legitimised the invasion by Turkey. So they developed this plan together. So for whoever died in these attacks, each person who was injured; America, Russia, the UN and Turkey are responsible.
“I am invading North East Syria,” Erdogan openly said to the UN. Nobody said anything. This is immoral. Again, in some countries “they will not sell Turkey weapons” they say. They do this to prevent reactions and somehow trick the Kurds. They continued the undercurrent of relations with Turkey and to continue arms sales. Our people need to see this. They should not listen to these states’ speeches. They are completely in the service of the occupying Turkish state. They are not saying “what are you doing in North East Syria immediately got to get out there,” because they stand behind Turkey, behind curtains they tell Turkey to continue. So the occupation and the massacres of Turkey do not stop.
TURKEY’S AIM IN ROJAVA IS TO DEMOLISH KURDS
Some people say that Turkey will stop after taking the region, these people lie and want to deceive our people. “I will take the places in and around the Euphrates, Tigris, Hesekê,” Erdogan says openly. Every steo taken shows that they want to wipe out the Kurdish population in Rojava. Our people in Rojava must understand this truth very well. They should believe in themselves and their fighters, not explanations. They must continue with their honorable resistance fighters against Turkey until the end of the occupation. This is the only right way. Only the resistance and the victory of the resistance can rescue the Kurds. Otherwise, they are preparing the way for the death of Kurds.
Some Arab states have good postures. They cannot make serious decisions in practice against America, Russia, Europe and the UN, but they have good attitudes. We greet especially Egypt and Palestine. Therefore, our people should know that a great conspiracy is in progress. Not only in Rojava, but in all parts of Kurdistan and against the Kurdish movement. This conspiracy is against Leader Apo, the PKK, the guerrillas and the free Kurds. Many forces are involved in this conspiracy. They also make some explanations for our people not to understand. In other words, the Kurds and the Turkish state are fighting, let the two sides be defeated, and let both sides be put into service.
The Kurds must resist and struggle only for themselves. I believe that our people understood both America and Russia very well. They saw how they sacrificed Kurds for their own sake. Previously, we said that our people should believe in themselves and struggle in line with their own power and struggle. They can get results when they develop alliances and resistances with the peoples. If they stray away from these principles and criteria, if they takes some states as refference, then they are preparing their own.
Following the occupation attacks, the North East Syria administration agreed to protect the border line with the regime and Russia. What do you think about this agreement?
That is right and necessary. Because the northern and eastern Syria region is a part of Syria. QSD, YPG, YPJ and the people of the region are Syrians. The Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Armenians, Circassians and Turkmens living in North East Syria, regardless of their culture, said: “We are a part of Syria and we are based on the integrity of Syria”. They proved this not only in their explanations but also in their practice. This is how the Syrian regime should approach this. Turkey says I have established a national Syrian army, the army he established does not accept Syria, they have developed a new Syria against Syria. Turkey is building a Syria as he wants with this gangs. This serves NATO’s capitalist modernity, NATO member Turkey, and all these gangs linked to Turkey.
He wants to destroy the regime with these gangs and establish a new Syria. Syria needs to see this fact. Turkey claims to move as a “Peace Spring,” blood is flowing through this spring. Kurdish, Arab, Circassian, Assyrian, Turkmen and Armenians are slaughtered every day. There are hundreds of dead and wounded. Villages and cities are being defeated. He does all this with the gangs. These gangs now belong to the Turkish army. Ottoman Turkey wants to achieve a new purpose through them. They took millions of Syrians to Turkey, they receive many results against Europe with this, as well as educating and organizing them so that when they establish a new Syria, they take it as their basis.
In addition, the gangs between them constantly, establishing military power. He’s at war with them. Syria is being demolished by Turkey, and he still wants to continue this destruction. I believe that Syria understood this fact. So they took some steps with the QSD, YPG and the Democratic Autonomous Administration. They’re too late, but it’s a good decision. We see this as a service to all peoples.
Following the attacks of the Turkish state, Basur, Rojhilat and the Kurds in Europe rebelled. Warriors also exhibit historic resistance with light weapons and will against technique. How do you assess the level of resistance?
At first I said that the Kurds are waging war of existence and poverty. Wherever the Kurds are, they must know that the Turkish state is waging a war to destroy the Kurds. In order not to disappear, the Kurds should do whatever they can for their identity, territory, culture and freedom. They should do whatever they can because they’re right. The struggle they have developed is not only for the Kurds but for all humanity. They saved humanity from a great trouble, now the biggest trouble is Erdogan. Because ISIS and Nusra are behind Erdogan. Everybody knows that. The Kurds are resisting this trouble and paying great costs and suffering. Humanity needs to see this.
Our people in all parts, our people outside the country are standing. They’re taking care of themself, their honor, their future. I congratulate all our heroic people. They should make this resistance even bigger. Kurds should not recognize those who do not recognize Kurds. Against those who want to destroy the Kurds, Kurds must stand against them in every way. These are rights. We recognise those who recognise us. Kurds must remember every face that provides secret or open support for this massacre by Turkey, and they should be seen as the enemy. They should never forget what was done to the Kurds. If they forget, they’ll accept their disappearance. I believe that the Kurdish people will never forget them and will ask for payback.
At present, 14 parties have taken decisions together in Basur, and the Basur parliament has taken a decision. I find these decisions in place and send my greetings and respects. They should also apply these decisions in practice. It should not remain in language and on paper. That’s why they have to open the Rojava border completely. They must go to Rojava and let the people who want to fight. They shouldn’t stop them. They must provide material and moral support to the heroes in Rojava in every respect. That’s the truth. Kurdish youth abroad should turn to Rojava. They must develop this struggle against the invaders where they cannot go, nobody can ask why you’re doing this. This is our right because the invading, fascist Turkish state wants to eliminate everything in the name of Kurd, Kurdish and Kurdistan. Humanity does not accept it. The Kurds will do whatever they can to live free and this is also the right of the Kurds.
Finally, what is your message to the Kurdish people, Kurdish fighters and Kurdish friends?
Against the Turkish state’s occupation plan, our people in Bakur should not leave their village, house or city. Even if they die, they must not leave. They must stand courageously, decisively against the occupation. Only then, the invaders cannot follow through this decision.
The people want to go in front of the HDP and explain. This is wrong. The occupiers are aware of this and are taking precautions. They are blocking the buildings with the police, MIT and their men. They prevent those who come there from gathering and explaining. Anyone can protest on the street. If so, there will be an uprising in all the streets and villages. Who will block them, who will arrest them? They can not. Our people can destroy their persecution and oppression. Such a revolt by developing large, can destroy fascism in Turkey. Our people should know that unless the fascist AKP-MHP power is gone, there will be no end to the massacres.
They never accepted Kurds, do not relate to Kurds, do not solve the problem. When this power disappears, they will accept the Kurds and the Kurdish question. Otherwise, they want to eliminate the Kurds. That is why they are attacking everything of the Kurds. Will the Kurds always live like this? This is death, not living. If the Kurds rise, they may pay the price, but if they live like this, this policy will tear them apart. It must be rebelled everywhere. Streets, neighborhoods, villages. Then where do the invaders control? There must be a permanent change in this matter.
Currently in Turkey every religion, sect, culture, regardless of the people should, unite against fascism for everyone. They should meet at a few points. They can base democracy, justice and freedom against fascism. On this basis, they can stand against fascism.
TURKISH WAR IS DIMINISHING ALL RESOURCES
The end of anyone who says “I am against fascism in Turkey, am a democrat, I’m a socialist, I’m patriotic, I stand by those against massacre of the Kurdish people” is death. If they live now, it’s because the Kurds struggle. If they go through massacres, none will be left. Everyone has to see this truth. Currently, the Turkish government claims to run this war on behalf of the people of Turkey. I wonder if the people of Turkey actually accepts this? Resources of people in Turkey is conducting the war with the Turkish state. Does the public accept it or not? Currently, Turkey has made life poison for all people because the Turkish state spends all resources on war; with this he is massacring the people. Hence the economic crisis it is experiencing. Either the people accept it, surrender to fascism, and they will be part of their crimes. Or they stand before the Turkish state and bring an end to the massacre of Kurdish people and fascism.
There’s no way out. All parts of Kurdistan must be well aware that if Rojava is not supported and the resistance of honor is not successful, all four parts of Kurdistan are subjected to massacres. The Turkish state made this decision, they aim to achieve this through World War 3. “In the 1st and 2nd world war, I had massacred Armenians, Assyrians, Assyrians, Pontus, Jews, and in this world war I will put the Kurds through massacres.”
The Kurds may have disagreements and problems among themselves, but they have to work together and take care of the nation. An urgent national unity conference should therefore be held. There have been some calls about this, and we support. These are both in conversations and should not be late. Today, what is needed for the Kurds more than bread, air and water is the National Unity Conference. This conference needs an urgent meeting, making decisions. At that time, the struggle of the Kurds becomes stronger. The invaders cannot carry out such massacres against the Kurds, nobody can strengthen their interests through the Kurds. It cannot sacrifice the Kurds to their interests.
THE PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING BY ACCEPTING BIG PRICES
At the moment, the press is spreading news to the world, developing assessments on the spot, expressing the conscience of humanity. This is good. The press has a huge impact on international spheres, states and governments. They hold the power to change the mind. So we need to see this and strengthen the press. The press can show the struggle. This is a public service.
Those who represent the conscience of humanity stand by the Kurds, stand against the occupation of the fascist Turkish state, stand against their own government. That’s good too. I congratulate both our people and friends of the Kurdish people. If this resistance of honor is now being developed everywhere, this fascist, occupying Turkish state cannot prevent it. They want to give the Kurds heavy losses because they have guns and hidden friends. They are alive, but our people, the fighters of QSD, YPG-YPJ, and the peoples of North East Syria are fighting with great heroism against invasion, massacres and fascism. They have all taken the pain, the costs of remaining on our land, our village; they say “we do not leave our house, we do not undermine our dignity”. So I congratulate and greet themselves.
The Kurds will get results with the resistance and the victory of the resistance. Apart from this, Kurds have no other way. If they turn to other routes, they will serve others. They are being sacrificed to the interests of states like USA and Russia. If they walk in a willed, determined, courageous way, no one can break their will, no one can take over or liquidate. They can suffer great costs, great pain, but as a result they will win big.
Since the Kurds understand that the Turkish state wants to destroy whatever is in the name of Kurd and Kurdistan, it is defending the honor resistance of Rojava. To protect the honor resistance is to protect itself. That’s why they pay all the costs. As a result, the Kurds will win.
In this direction, I greet them once again and congratulate them for their resistance. QSD, YPG-YPJ, the peoples of North East Syria, Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, Assyrian, Circassian, Armenian, Turkmen peoples, people from whatever culture and sect, we are with them. We will be with them with all our means. We will fight, we will win. On this note, we wish success to all of them.”
