GIEßEN
One week after the first rally against the then still imminent attack of the Turkish armed forces and their jihadist allies on the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria, hundreds of participants again followed the call for resistance on October 14 and gathered for a vigil at Berliner Platz in Gießen. In some speeches the terrible situation of the local people in Northern Syria was described, but also the hope for an imminent end of the invasion.
This was preceded by actions of a group of young activists who, under the motto #Nehêle, creatively depicted the cruelties of the war in the Giessen pedestrian zone. In addition, civil society was informed about Turkey’s aggression through leaflets and personal conversations, and at the same time called upon to take action.
At night, a small spontaneous demonstration by activists about the plant ring and the city centre followed.
In order to keep up the pressure for the next days, a demonstration through the city centre of Giessen is planned for tomorrow evening. As usual, the demonstration will start at 6 p.m. at Berliner Platz, where rallies are expected to take place for the rest of the week at the same time.
