The General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) Mezlûm Ebdî spoke to Al-Arabiya television about the latest developments in the region. Ebdi’s statements are as follows:
‘Turkey violates ceasefire’
“As you know, we have withdrawn all our forces in Serêkaniyê. Yesterday we removed some of our wounded friends in the city and today we took all our strength from the city with the rest of the wounded. In this way, we withdrew our forces from the places designated according to the cease-fire agreement. However, Turkey is still continuing the attacks, which indicates that Turkey is not complying with the agreement.”
‘The region should be under the supervision of the UN’
“This is the case for now. The US’ and Turkey’s attitude is different. We have fulfilled our obligations under the agreement with the United States. The agreement only included Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, not the other areas. The ceasefire deal we have reached was made on the basis of the issues in our North and East Syrian border to Turkey; we would not create a threat to Turkey but Turkey would also not create a threat to us. Our forces would withdraw from the area between the city of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî to the international road. Now we are taking these sreps, but as we do so, the Turkish state needs to follow the cease-fire rules along the border.
We agreed on this point. However, we have had no information about the 13 clauses being shared in the press. We didn’t say anything about it. We cannot accept such a thing. Therefore, there should be negotiations and agreements for the region.
UN forces must enter the region and prevent massacres against the people of the region. The future of the region should be determined within the framework of a general solution. ”
‘The Turkish state must leave the region’
“We can’t accept that. It is not possible for Syrians with any national values to accept this, and the Kurds do not accept it. Turkey has no relation to Rojava and Syria. The Turkish state has to leave the region. The Turkish state is talking about the border security mechanism; this is an issue to be discussed and agreed upon. But we will never accept a permanent occupation of Turkey. All Syrians should act to come out of Turkey’s territory.”
