The Askapena organisation has expressed its solidarity with Rojava in a newly released press statement. The statement is as follows:
“The internationalist and anti-imperialist organization of the Basque Country, Askapena, shows its total solidarity with the Kurdish people and their liberation struggle against this new attack by the Turkish fascist state.
From Euskal Herria (Basque Country) we denounce the use of security and the fight against terrorism as an excuse to suppress an entire nation, when what really lies behind this attack is the desire on the part of the Turkish State to accumulate more power in the region in order to condition and submit to its will any attempt to a just and peaceful solution in the Middle East.
The destabilization policy carried out by imperialism in the region, whether Great Britain, France or the United States of America, is known in order to confront the various peoples, ethnicities, cultures and religions existing among themselves and to maintain their hegemony, so that the accumulation of existing wealth was ensured. This imperialism has been the one who has fed Turkish fascism, taking it as a guardian in the area through NATO or adjudicating the role of police regarding refugees and migratory flows through millionaire agreements such as the one signed by the European Union with Turkey.
Now that the world balance is changing, it seems that Turkey is changing its allies (something that remains to be seen), but always in order to maintain its control in the area. The attack Turkey is carrying out, in addition to allowing him to control the oil wells in the area and part of the territory corresponding to the Syrian State, will allow him to control the political future of the region. In addition, with the objective set in the Kurdish liberation movement, he fights one of his greatest enemies, the one who shakes the status quo imposed that holds Erdogan in power.
In this situation, we cannot resign ourselves to looking impassively at events. We cannot allow a sister nation to be massacred by the interests and under the violence of some States that the only thing they seek is to feed their own power in their career to accumulate capital and power.
The Kurdish people is an example more than worthy of struggle and freedom, an example in which we are reflected, an example from which we learn, an example that allows us to see that a future for peoples without capitalism and without patriarchy is possible. We will not allow them to take that dream away from us and that is why we commit ourselves to denounce every attack and to participate in the organization of the internationalist struggle in Euskal Herria.”
