The family of the prisoner Müslüm Gönül, Human Rights Association (IHD) held a press conference in its Istanbul Branch. It was disclosed that Muslum Gonul, detained in Silivri Type-L Prison was beaten and tortured by the prison guards on July 2.

HRA executives also supported the meeting. Elif Gönül stated that her partner, Müslüm Gönül, was being held in a solitary cell and said, “my partner’s arms were bruised, his neck was swollen, his tongue was cut, his feet were injured and his waist was injured. I have a 4-year-old girl. I went to the prison with my child to see my partner, beaten. My daughter asked why there are bruises on her father’s arms. Your father has fallen, I told her. What else could I tell her, how would I explain?”
STOP TORTURE
Müslüm Gönül’s mother, Badegül Gönül, stated that the doctors did not report the assault and torture committed against her son. Stating that they reported the torture to the prison administration, Badegül said, “When I saw my child, I wanted to see the director. The director refused to see us, the guards came back to us saying that there is no need.
While we do not have the heart to kiss our children, our children are being tortured. My child is not a traitor. I am behind my child and I want to say ‘stop’ to torture. As a mother, I ask that the doctors who have sworn Hippocratic oath remain faithful to their oath under any circumstances. The orders given above should not prevent the doctors from performing their duties.”
