WAN
Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) launched a 6-month action and activity program of the campaign “Stand up for change and freedom,” in Wan.
Numerous women activists attended the event which was held in the meeting hall of Nuda Cultural Center in Hacıbekir District of Wan. Women gathered in the cultural centre despite provocation attempts by the invading Turkish policemen. A large number of armoured vehicles and riot control vehicles surrounded the cultural centre to prevent women’s activity: the governor’s decision was cited as a reason.
Journalists who wanted to view the blockade of the invading Turkish police were dispersed by force.
In the meantime, the women were marching from the cultural centre to the HDP Wan Provincial Organization building in traditional clothes. During the march, slogans such as “stand up against rape, child abuse, prostitution, substance abuse, Jin jiyan azadi, and biji berxwedana jina” were also shouted.
HDP Wan Provincial Co-Mayor Yadişen Karabulak, HDP and DBP Provincial and district administration women, HDP district co-mayors and municipal councillors, Van Peace Mothers Assembly members, activists, women lawyers and many others attended.
We know the isolation imposed on Mr Öcalan
The statement, which started with a minute of silence for women who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy, was read in Kurdish and Turkish. TJA activist Gülcan Kaçmaz Sağyiğit, who read the text, said,
“There is a massacre in the country where we live in the scope of fundamental human rights and freedoms. We know the greatest example of this unlawfulness is the solitary confinement imposed on Mr Öcalan. As a matter of fact, the source of all the lawlessness imposed on us is this isolation. Of course, this unlawfulness has encompassed not only us but all layers of society.”
We will achieve our self-defence
Saying that they want to include all social segments in the campaign, Gülcan said, “This is exactly why we will not remain silent against all the lawlessness directed against us, and we will take the ‘3rd route’ strategy as the basis of building peace in the streets, at work and in the neighbourhoods. The leading force of this strategy is women.
The campaign that we started today will continue until the end of December. Within the scope of our campaign; our target is capitalist modernity. We will focus on raising awareness by questioning the position of men. We will go to multi-faceted planning for the problems that emerge in the context of occupation, migration and war. We will try to make women’s defence and self-defence effective in the face of attacks on women’s existence.
Throughout November, we will be engaged in actions and activities aimed at combating violence against women.
We will sing songs of freedom on the streets
During the month of December, we will fight against all kinds of human rights violence under the law, especially against women political prisoners, we will sing songs of freedom on the streets. We’ll say stop ecological damage. We’ll wear work apron and take over the watch. We will do cultural generation week and programs with our native language.
In partnership with women’s platforms, we will go on planning for the opening of women’s living spaces. In this sense, we urge all women to clamp around this campaign. Together we will say; Life was beautiful with the colour of women. ”
We are followers of this case
The HDP provincial co-chairman, Yadişen Karabulak, reacted to the sexual abuse of an 8-year-old boy.
“We are the follower of this case,” Yadişen said. “Here, we are exposing the rapist named Eyyüphan Bilici. We are renewing the promise that we will stand against the abuse of women and children.”
