A commune person

Comrade Akif Yılmaz, who was not at the hearing when the death fast was declared in the court, he would only be aware of the death fast when those who went to the hearing were brought to his cell late in the evening. That same evening, without losing time, Akif knocked on the bars of the cell, calling the guards, saying that he had joined the death fast and wanted to go to his comrades. The torture-soldiers said they would take him in the morning, but Akif had decided. He would go now, and so he did.

Comrade Akif Yılmaz was one of those who joined leader Apo from Serhat region in the first years of the struggle. As long as he lived, he was always on the front line. Akif Yilmaz was captured by the enemy, years later while fighting in Amed. He was a humble, altruistic and valiant revolutionary who knew no boundaries to his bond to leader Apo, the party and the people.

There were five people in his cell. He said “we cannot live without a commune in here,” he stood in the way of a search for an individualistic life, and put everything which he had onto the table. He sent a very small amount of pepper secretly to his friends whom the enemy tortured until they would make donkey sounds. Akif was also additionally punished for handing out food. This pepper became the symbol of solidarity. Following comrades of Hayri and Kemal, Akif Yilmaz was martyred on 17 September.

The calendar showed July 14, the day death was killed; the honourable, free, democratic future of our people was laid the foundations for.  This day would go down in history as National Honor Day, as formed by our people. The foundations of the August 15, the revival of revolution, were laid with the indestructible strength of July 14.

July 14 was the demonstration of the victory of the Apoist self-will in the most severe and difficult conditions.

Today, with the spirit of July 14, living in the uprisings of millions, there is a guarantee of the dignity, freedom, equal and democratic life of our people and victory. July 14 Resistance fighters are the creators of the Apoist spirit, sacrificing their precious lives for the sake of preserving paradise and allowing their peoples to live freely!
