Sehid Hêlîn Qerecox,(Anna Campbell) is an internationalist hero, she is the embodiment of dedication and altruism. Becoming immortal in March 2018 by am attack of the fascist Turkish state, Hêlîn became a light which burned through the rubbles of war-torn Rojava; her hope broke the walls of liberalism, she became the bridge of united struggle.
Anna Campbell, British feminist, anarchist and prison abolition activist was born in Lewes, a small town just East of Sussex. She was educated at the independent St Mary’s Hall, in Brighton and then went to study at Sheffield University before moving to Bristol, where she would work as a plumber.
Anna would be involved with many political movements, including the 2010 United Kingdom student protests, the Hunt Saboteurs Association, Anarchist Black Cross and other anarchist and abolitionist organisations. She would later join the YPJ, fighting against ISIS in their stronghold in Derazor. Anna Campbell would become Hêlîn Qerecox.
Hêlîn would travel to Rojava with a deep belief in the struggle for a free, equal and an ethical world, she would dedicate her whole heart to the struggle for worldwide women’s liberation. She would put up a glorious fight in the midsts of Rojava’s brutality; she would advocate a secular, democratic and egalitarian politics.
On 15 March 2018, the YPJ would declare Hêlîn Qereçox, martyred:
“Our British comrade Hêlîn Qereçox (Anna Campbell) has become the symbol of all women after resisting against fascism in Efrin to create a free world. We promise to fulfil Şehîd (martyr) Hêlîn’s struggle and honour her memory in our fight for freedom.”
Dear comrade Hêlîn Qereçox would become immortal in Efrin. She would become the world’s promise of revolution, of freedom, of revenge.
