Mehmet Hayri Durmus, Kemal Pir, Akif Yilmaz and Ali Cicek, who started the death fast on 14 July 1982 against the inhumane practices that started in Amed Prison No. 5 after the coup of September 12, 1980, were commemorated with various activities.
The People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Amed MPs Remziye Tosun, Saliha Aydeniz, Musa Farisoğulları, HDP and the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), commemorated by the 78th Association.
They turned darkness into light
Speaking at the commemoration held on the 37th anniversary of their martyrdom, the President of the Association of 78s Gani Alkan said that the September 12 coup was intended to be held at an earlier date, but was postponed until later due to the unfinished construction of Diyarbakır No. 5 Prison.
Alkan reminded that the Kurdish movement was institutionalized at a very advanced level before the 80’s coup and stated that it was wanted to be prevented with this coup. Alkan reminded that with the achievement of the coup, all institutions belonging to the Kurdish movement were closed down and everyone who said “I’m Kurdish” was thrown into Diyarbakır Prison. Stating that the Diyarbakır Prison was turned to the concentration camp, Alkan stressed that special troops were sent here by the military junta and that special policies were implemented.
Alkan said that ” through the prisoners of the Kurdish movement in Amed, they wanted to end the whole Kurdish movement. Against these policies, Mazlum Dogan on March 21 lit a bright spark. Then, in the 33rd ward, our friends, whom we call ‘the 4s,’ turned the spark of Mazlum Doğan into a torch. The detainees frustrated the policies of the state with the death fast launched on 14 July.”
‘THEY DID NOT ACCEPT’
MP Musa Farisoğulları stated that the aim of the 12 September military coup was to destroy the will of the people. “They fought against the breaking of willpower. ”
