In an action against Turkish consul employees in a restaurant in Hewlêr on 17 July, one of the occupying Turkish consul assistants and two associates were killed. The Hewlêr Public Order raided the homes of the Mexmur youth working in Hewlêr after the attack.
16 young women were detained in raids in Hewlêr, on18 July between 01.30-02.00 at night. The detainees were taken to the Hewlêr Public Order. 11 of those detained were released at noon on July 19, while 5 people are still in custody.
Turkish speakers also participated
According to the information received from the detained and released young people, the Turkish-speaking people attended the raids with the public order forces. Turkish-speaking people told the young people, “We know who you are, PKK supporters,” it was reported.
The released young people said that they were not given any information as to why they had been detained and that after a few hours the security forces came and said, “We have accidentally detained you and we will release you.”
The fate of 5 young people is unknown
While no information could be obtained regarding the situation of 5 young women in custody, the authorities did not make any statement about the detainees.
