In the capital of, Algeria, hundreds of students and teachers, under intense police measures, demanded the release of political prisoners, especially those arrested recently. There were no clashes with the police during the protest but a large number of people were detained during the protests in the previous weeks.
Recently, around 30 activists were arrested for raising the Amazig flag.
Chief of the General Staff Ahmed Gaid Salih had banned the carrying of this flag. During the protests, the independence of Burega was demanded. Lahdar Burega, considered the hero of the war of independence, was arrested on charges of insulting the army for his criticism of general Gaid Saleh.
After months of protest, Abdulaziz Buteflika, who had been in power for 20 years, had to resign on April 2. With this resignation, Gaid Saleh took the ropes. Salih refuses to accept the demands of the weeks-long reaction movement.
The popular movement demands that the transition process be put in place, all Buteflika members in the government and parliament are taken out of the process, and the transition institution needs to reform the country before the presidential election.
