Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), announced the unemployment rate in March. The unemployment rate was 14.1 percent in March, according to data, which did not take into account the “despaired unemployed”. According to the state statistical agency, Turkstat data released that the unemployment of the 15 and over age group is at 4,544,000 people. This has risen by 1,334,000 people compared to the statistics of March the previous year.
The unemployment rate increased by 4 percentage points to 14.1 percent. In the same period; the Non-agricultural unemployment rate increased by 4.2 percentage points to 16.1 percent, while the unemployment rate of the young population (15-24 years) increased by 7.5 percentage points to 25.2 percent. This rate increased by 4 percentage points to 14 percent for the 15-64 age group.
EMPLOYMENT DECREASED, UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASED
TurkStat disclosed that the number of employed in March 2019, compared to the same period the previous year decreased by 1.7 points equating 704,000 people to 27,795,000 people.
According to the data announced, the number of employees in the agricultural sector decreased by 240,000, while the number of employees in non-agricultural sectors decreased by 464,000.
17.3 percent of those employed were in agriculture, 19.7 percent in industry, 5.5 percent in construction, and 57.4 percent in services.
Seasonally adjusted employment increased by 72 thousand people compared to the previous period was estimated at 28,146,000. The employment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 46.0 percent.
The seasonally adjusted number of unemployed people increased by 68,000 compared to the previous period and amounted to 4,487,000 people. The unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 13.7 percent.
According to economic activity, the number of people employed in the agriculture sector decreased by 5,000 while the construction sector by 53,000 people, while the industrial sector increased by 94,000, the service sector increased by 37,000 people.

According to TUIK data explaining the housing sales, home sales in Turkey decreased by 31.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year in the month of May 2019 which was 82,252.
