Gencani Welatparez and Jinen Tekoşer’s live shield action launched against the occupying Turkish state’s invasion of Bashur in Binarê Qendil has been going on for 16 days.
A group from the Mesopotamian Workers’ Association visited the live shield activists in Binarê Qendil today. The group was greeted by young people and Ruken Ciya.
Ruken Çiya is one of the youths who acted as a live shield; she says during her statement that “The Turkish state is carrying out massacres in Başur. We have started a live shield action to prevent the occupation.”
Speaking on behalf of the Mesopotamian Workers’ Association, İhsan Yıldız said, “It is meaningful to initiate live shield actions during this period when the Turkish state intensified its attacks on Başur. We salute and support the action of young people.
The people of Binarê Qendil lived under the pressure of the Baath regime for years. Now they are under pressure from the Turkish state. We strongly condemn these attacks. We condemn the silent attitude of the Iraqi and Regional government against the occupation.”
Merwan Memduh Özdemir, who had been on the death-fast action for 13 days in Süleymaniye against the isolation of the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, also a member of the Mesopotamian Workers Association, said, “The aim of the Turkish state is to invade Başur. The action initiated by the youth against the occupation is meaningful. All the people in Bashur should behave against the occupation like the youth. ”
