Kazım Koyuncu, the revolutionary spirit of the Black Sea; he is the seeker of the revolution.
There is much to be said about Kazim, who has fit the rebel spirit of the Black Sea into his 33-year life. Kazim, born November 7, 1971, in Artvin, is a Laz musician who creates his own style by synthesizing traditional Black Sea music and Rock’n’Roll music. He closes his eyes to the world as a result of lung cancer at the age of 33.
Kazim fitted so many things of humanity, so beautiful things, and such meaningful sadnesses into himself. Kazım is a boy who grew up in the Black Sea, known for his rebelliousness, who keeps his revolutionary line alive through his music. When Kazım starts to make music, he is afraid to disappear in the system but manages to live in the system protecting his values.
Kazim was a musician who created a revolutionary exit within the system that swallowed everyone. He was humanitarian, he hoped, he could not turn his back on anyone, he was a musician in love with humanity. Kazim was a person who made a difference with his music in this path that led the revolution within himself.
On the death of Kazim, everyone, everyone living in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan feels the loss of the poet jacketed kid, they were wrapped in his life like a poem or a song.
Kazim’s fight
If we are going to talk about Kazım, we should talk about his fight. Kazim fought cancer, cancer which was not ordinary cancer. After the Chernobyl disaster, there was at least one patient in every house in the Black Sea.
Kazım was a young man who struggled with cancer; his struggle was not only with this disease but with this tragedy. Kazim’s killer was not this cancer, but the system henchmen who sipped their tea after the Chernobyl disaster.
The enemies of humanity and nature continue to plunder the Black Sea. Kazim was the one who rebelled with his music and disaster.
Peace be upon you from the children of the mountains
When he came to perform in a concert in Amed, Kazim was not accepted by many, but he overlooked the reality of Artvin and Amed, he was aware of the fact that they had to fight against him.
“I want to talk about the concert, the people of Amed, the mountains, fire, the children of the sun” as the words Kazim said at the concert to break down a taboo about Kurdistan, ”Especially my feelings about Diyarbakir, many people know how many times I went to Newroz, festivals or other events. I have a special sympathy for their excitement and so on. The world knows this. ”
Yes, Kazım Koyuncu was a true revolutionary, an artist of the peoples. Neither the struggle of the Kurdish people nor the rebellious sea boy of the Black Sea would be forgotten. He was an important figure among the Kurds as well as important for the Black Sea music.
Kazim left early but left us a lot. When history showed June 25, 2005, Kazım would leave us, but the children of the mountains and the seas would unite a common pain, and even his departure would be the spirit of unity and revolution.
