ISTANBUL
Hasankeyf, despite its thousands of years of history, is wanting to be submerged; in an attempt to save Hasankeyf, an action was organized today to raise awareness. The music groups BEKSAV and Çava Çebu participated in the event organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly in Kadıköy Rıhtım.
THE ROAD TO ECOLOGICAL DESTRUCTION IS BEING PAVED
Speaking at the event, HDP Youth Assembly member Rojin Aba reminded that the Ilısu Dam project, which will flood the 12,000-year-old ancient city of Hasankeyf and the Dicle Valley with its biodiversity, is nearing the end.
Noting that the project was continued despite the reaction of the people of the region, Aba said, “The local people and various groups who objected to this project for 20 years, and the ecological destruction of the Ilısu Project continued to create resources with the new laws issued by the state.
Ilisu project is a project that brings wrong and destruction from beginning to end. It will cause economic, cultural, social and ecological massacres. ”
‘A FIGHT FOR HASANKEYF’
Emphasizing the importance of the support of local and international institutions in the struggle, Aba said, ’’the world remains silent to the destruction of Hasankeyf, a world heritage with 9 of the 10 criteria determined by UNESCO. It’s not too late for Hasankeyf.
There are dams, nuclear power plants and other projects in this world whose construction is finished and not operational. There have also been struggles until the last moment and were a success.
We invite everyone and every institution to stand by us to make this struggle a success.”
After the announcement, BEKSAV Music Group and Çava Çebu music groups performed their songs for Hasankef.
