Istanbul’s fascist 30th High Criminal Court continues to hear the case of Gezi Park resistance. Among the 2 detainees are businessman Osman Kavala, while 6 of the defendants remain unfound; 16 citizens are being tried in the courtroom of Silivri Prison Campus.
Filmmaker and journalist Çiğdem Mater and Anadolu Kültür A.Ş. Board Member, Ali Hakan Altınay, were among those who made a defence.
Ali rejected all charges against him: he stated that establishing foundations in Turkey, or working for foundations is not a crime. He added that it is not illegal to receive grants from abroad.
Ali also emphasized that the Open Society Foundation is legal, “No grant decision under my signature is related to Gezi. I want to know what the grant mentioned in the indictment is” he said.
İM I REFUSED AT YOUR OWN WILL ’
Hakan, “Many people are trying hard to get the Green Card. I am one of the few people who have rejected this with my own will and deny these accusations.
I never had the will or intention to strike. I figured out how to prove that I didn’t mean to. I think I can show you what I’ve done. You created a quality education in Turkey so I am working, I took part in the establishment of the Independent Commission on Turkey. When the French CB Sarkozy said, ‘TR is not European’, I organized the respectable people of Europe and made a response via a big newspaper.”
After Hakan’s defense, the hearing will continue tomorrow.
