CENTRAL NEWS

Abdullah Öcalan’s Freedom-Peace in Kurdistan ”The International Initiative and Free Life Construction Dialogues were published by Aram publishing house. In the book, there are many writings of the well-known anti-capitalist, anarchist, feminist, socialist, activist and researcher about the works of Leader Apo. Before discussing some of the chapters in this study, I must say that this is a study that must be read. Even though the authors live outside the Middle East, the Middle East is the main thing to read this book.

In particular, they are from Kurdistan. How the views of Leader Apo influenced the world, what the resonance of all forms of oppression in other parts of the world, and how the anti-capitalist stance, especially in the search for stateless solutions to statist-power structures, was of value.

The first article in the book belongs to John Holloway, professor of sociology at the Institute of Human and Science of the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico (BUAP), who has written extensively on Marxist theory, the Zapatista Movement and new forms of anti-capitalist struggle. Although his writing is very short, the content is extremely full.

Holloway: The danger of having a political stance is solidification so that we can’t think of anything beyond that stance… Abdullah Öcalan’s miracle is that, although he is the leader, he is able to revise and transform his thought, to think again and again the meaning and possibility of the revolution and to convince all these people to accompany him in this process ”. In human nature, there is a great tendency to dogmatism, that is, if something is acquired, not to abandon it or even insist on it. Especially if these acquired ideas and lifestyles insist on this is more.

The PKK emerged as a National Liberation Organization and, on this basis, had the most fierce struggle in the Middle East. The main objective of this struggle was to establish a Kurdistan state. However, with the understanding of the real essence of the state and power over time, Leader Apo focused on step-by-step solutions to the state and distant from power and based on Democratic Confederalism with the Democratic Nation mentality expressed as the new paradigm since the 2000s. It has developed an alternative to the structures of a nation-state, which Democratic Autonomy, in which each color, public, and even belief can express itself. It has shown that anti-capitalist, anti-nation statist Democratic Nation project can prevent the use of peoples against each other on the basis of nationalism and religiousism through the project of Democratic Confederalism and Democratic Autonomy.

John Holloway, in his own words: We need these bursts of light in the dark, and darkening sky. And this is why the Kurdish movement is so important to us. Our answer to this is solidarity, but it means more than that. This is a response from hunger, thirst, longing. The Kurdish movement and the Zapatistas give us joy because we are looking for something like this, we need the light that illuminates the sky, the light of hope.
