BERLIN
Kurdish youth living in the German capital, Berlin, took an action to commemorate the martyr Zîlan on the anniversary of her martyrdom. In the protest led by young women, young people hung the ERNK flag, Şehit Zîlan’s photo and a banner with ‘#Dijî Dagirkeriye Serî Hilde’ on a highway bridge in Prenzlauer Berg district.
The message of the youth who carried out the action was:
“We salute the resistance of all women in this world and specifically Comrade Zîlan who did not surrender to the enemy with the act of sacrifice and rebellion against male domination.
Her act of sacrifice and determination was not only an attack on the enemy. Martyr Zilan’s action also gave courage and hope to the Kurdish people.
Our great belief in freedom proved that every fear is unnecessary because freedom is hidden in our nature.
Long live the struggle of women’s liberation! Long live internationalism! ”
“Zîlan is our commander“
Şehit Zîlan camouflaged herself as a pregnant woman on 30 June 1996 and entered the military point of the Turkish state in Dersim and carried out a sacrifice action. This was an action against the May 6 conspiracy in Damascus against the Peoples’ Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
For the first time in the history of the Freedom Movement, this kind of action took place and aroused great repercussions.
“Zîlan is our commander, we are her soldiers,” says Abdullah Öcalan, the Peoples’ Leader.
