THEY SAID “YOU CANT WASH THE FUNERAL IN OUR STATES MOSQUE”
The Kortak family took the funeral of their child to the mosque in order to fulfill their religious duties. However, the invading police blockade and harassment against the family continued here. According to Uncle Zubeyir Kortak, the police said ’The mosque is the state’s mosque. We certainly won’t let you wash in here. We will not allow the permanent imams here to wash the funeral. If anyone knows how to wash the funeral. “If you so much as chant a slogan, we will take the funeral from you and won’t let you bury”, they threatened the family. Nevaf’s funeral was then washed by family members and an imam. Family members who could not fulfill their religious obligations due to pressures of the occupying police, buried their funerals in the Akpinar Cemetery under the police blockade.
