CENTRAL NEWS –

The KCK Education Committee issued a message to mark 15 May, Kurdish Language Day, which has been celebrated since 2006.

The KCK urged people to celebrate the Language Day with the spirit of resistance. Ultimately, said the KCK, phrases such ‘I can’t speak with my mother tongue, I can’t write in it, I don’t understand it, I can’t think in it have no validity any longer.’

The KCK message added: “Beginning with prisons and all places in the world where the hunger strike resistance is being carried out, we are welcoming Kurdish Language Day in all four parts of Kurdistan. One of the most important reasons for these resistance – said the statement – is the preservation and of all our values and cultures, especially our language. In this context, we celebrate the Kurdish Language Day and salute all our people and comrades, especially Önder APO.”

The 15 May has been chosen as Kurdish Language Day to pay tribute to Hawar magazine, first published on 15 May 1932 under the leadership of Celadet Bedirxan.

The KCK message reminded that the Kurdish language, history, etymology and archeology are among the oldest in history. “Despite the attacks, invasions and assimilation of the Kurdish people the deep roots of the Kurdish language and culture survived and developed. The great Kurdish thinker Ehmedê Xanî also underlined this reality.”

The KCK statement also reminded that today, the international system that maintains its existence imposes denial rather than recognising and accepting reality. “The most obvious example of this is the fact that the organization called “United Nations” is not really a unity of nation and people but rather of “state and power”.

In the Middle East the reality of Kurds with their land torn apart by four states, with people displaced around the world, the fact that the language and its rich culture, languages and dialects are still subjected to denial and genocide policies in the 21st century, reveals the true essence of the international system.”

The statement ended with the following remarks: “We have a historical responsibility at this crucial time to make sure our language and culture are cultivated and improved. On this basis we once again celebrate this meaningful day of our people, especially of all the comrades engaged in the historic hunger strike resistance, and invite everyone not only to this day of the year but every day to further develop and improve the Kurdish language and culture.”
