The HSM Headquarters Commander, made a written statement to commemorate the martyrs of May, and stated that every martyrdom strengthens the PKK, rather than weakening it. The message of HSM is as follows:
“Our martyrs have become our main power source in the struggle of the PKK, the splendid struggle that has come so far. On 18 May 1977, our first martyr, Comrade Haki Karer, the great international revolutionary leader, became the symbol of the importance of martyrs within the movement. His martyrdom lead to the PKK being formally and officially established; making this movement, the movement of martyrs.
The month of May, saw the martyrdom of many revolutionary leaders in the Kurdistan and Turkey revolution struggle including our first commander, comrade Mehmet Karasungur. For this reason, our party has declared the PKK, 18 May as Martyrs Day and the month of May as the month of the Martyrs.
In May every year, the martyrs are commemorated; the connection to the martyrs are strengthened. The martyrs are remembered with accountability of our stance in the face of the truth, and the promise to martyrs’ is renewed, that their struggle will continue through their comrades. We renew our promises to them through this sacred day.
Our party is the result of a unique struggle created by the PKK, through the great work of The Peoples Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the heroes, our martyrs. Each martyrdom in the history of the struggle, never weakened the PKK, but strengthened it, increased its persistence, increased its insistence and increased its hatred and anger. All the periodic developments in our struggle, and the foundation of the movement is the result of the effort of our martyrs.
The PKK movement, which has made it a principle and a tradition to take revenge for the martyrdom of each and every comrade, has been walking in the same line and enlarging its struggle.
The Kurds and the Kurdish people are the result of the relentless, breathless struggle of the martyrs and the leader Abdullah Ocalan who brought the Kurdish people to the brink of liberation and salvation; the colonial system is trying to crush the Kurdish public reality through the genocide operations and special warfare policies in the grave of cultural genocide.
The martyrs are the ones who show the way to fight for the values of the Kurdistan people’s reality, to teach them to take all kinds of difficulties, to demonstarte a line that fights in the front, with a sacrificial spirit. And it is they who are the foundations of the epic resistances of the thousands that are occuring today.That is why; While our martyrs are the power source that drives us to continue, our true values are the values that give us the ambition of walking without compromising.
The people of Kurdistan, who understand this truth deeply, have always met their martyrs with great honor and pride and put their heritage to the highest levels. They are the ones who are attached to the memories of the comrades and alligned their own lives with the line of the martyrs.
Although the reality of the martyrdom in Kurdistan reveals that it is worthwhile and necessary to sacrifice itself for the cause of freedom, it also instills a commitment to insist on remaining in the cause of consciousness, courage and freedom. Today, the Great Hunger Strike and Death Fast Resistance, which is exhibited in the world as the people of Kurdistan, its children and valuable militants, is carried out on the basis of great persistence, determination and sacrifice.
As the Kurdistan People’s Defense Forces, the martyrs’ party is under the leadership of the PKK. The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla is a professional formation and performance in the axis of reconstruction, we will perform the great revenge of the martyrs, we will follow the line of martyrs, the struggle for more confident steps to realize the victory day by day to increase our determination to crown the victory of our free Kurdistan walk; On this basis we once again commemorate our martyrs with respect and gratitude.”
