BERLIN
Four Kurdish activists in Berlin, the capital of Germany, begun their hunger strike action demanding the abolition of the aggravated isolation of the occupying Turkish state. The activists; Omar Baghdad, Cemal Kobanê, Shiyar Xelil and Mele Mustafa ended their action after the Peoples Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call.
Mele Mustafas action lasted 134 days, Şiyar Xelil’s 121 days, Cemal Kobanê and Ömer Bağdur’s 118 days. They were later hospitalised after the call to end the action, due to serious health problems. They were not taken to the hospital on the first day. After ending their actions, the occupational attitude of the health officials of his local branch in Berlin was noted.
XELIL’S SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS
The activists, who had not been hospitalized because they were told that their condition is not serious enough for treatment, were urgently hospitalized today.
The doctors placed the activists under observation as they had low heart rate and low blood pressure. Xelil, who suffered severe abdominal pain, was given continuous painkillers. In the evening, Xelil was removed from the emergency department and taken to the inpatient section of the hospital. Both hunger strike resistance fighters Xelil and Mustafa are continuing their treatment.
RESPONSE OF HEALTH OFFICIALS
In the meantime, the non-responsible attitude of the health officials against the hunger strike activists, who were called to the NAV-DEM association on Sunday, sparked reactions from the hunger strike action committee and the representatives of Kurdish institutions in Berlin.
İsmail Parmaksız, member of the hunger strike action committee, recalled that the ambulance officers who arrived on Sunday had the same officials who came on different dates before the health status deteriorated and gave the following information:
The medics who attended to the activists previously, were the same medics on two separate occasions. These medics held that the activists had to be taken to hospital, as their condition was this severe, but in order to be able to take them, the activists would have to eat first. Of course, the activists did not accept it. The same ambulance came again on Sunday and the doctor first showed us a strange attitude. The doctor said they he would not enter without the presence of police. After convincing the doctor, they were told that the conditions of the activists were fine and that they did not need to be taken to hospital. However, we have taken the friends to the hospital ourselves and their conditions are severe”.
