In Istanbul, Beyoğlu, Kartal, Beykoz and Umraniye, the relatives of prisioners are gathering to demand that the isolation imposed on the Peoples Leader Abdullah Ocalan is removed and to bring attention to the ongoing hunger strikes and the death fasts. Many people gathered in Ümraniye wearing vests with the photographs of Leyla Güven, the DTK co-chair and the deputy of HDP, printed. Lelya Guven has now been on hunger strike for 190 days.
The people started to march by forming a human chain. They chanted “the isolation must be broken” and “everywhere is the dungeon, everywhere is the resistance”. The activists walked to the Iftaar tents where they said “the Hakkari deputy Leyla Guven started the hunger strikes which continued in the prisons and spread to 7,000 people. These people are on a hunger strike to ensure that the state enforces its laws. As of April 30, 30 people have started a death fast action against the lawlessness of the state. We will resist outside the prison and they will continue to resist isnide the prison until the demand of our comrades are met.
A large number of people gathered in Kartal also wore vests with the photos of Leyla Güven on. The people then carried out a march, chanting “be Leyla Guvens voice”.
In Beyoğlu and Beykoz, a large number of people gathered together after iftar. They cut off traffic and chanted “Long live the resistance of the prisons”, “Revolutionary prisoners are our honor” and “Leyla Güven is our honor”. The people of the neighborhood came to their balconies and windows to gave support to the protesters.
